The majority of health plans say they cover the costs of providing addiction treatment for their beneficiaries. In reality, families and individuals needing treatment are often told by their insurance plan they will only pay for part of the care or won’t pay for it at all: of the 70% of Americans insured by private health plans, few receive benefits for addiction on par with other diseases.
